Outcome of Strabismus Surgery and Vision Therapy in a Case of Intermittent Exotropia

چکیده
Intermittent exotropia is more common and tends to develop later in life. When considering the surgical approach to exotropia, an initial overcorrection may result in better long-term motor alignment [10,11]. Specific recommendations for overcorrection of patients with intermittent exotropia vary: Raab and Parks [12] advised overcorrection by 10∆ to 20∆; Scott and colleagues [13], 4∆ to 14∆; McNeer [14], 0∆ to 10∆. Burian [15] defined the condition of patients in whom the distance deviation equalled Outcome of Strabismus Surgery and Vision Therapy in a Case of Intermittent Exotropia

Intermittent Exotropia: Management Options and Surgical Outcomes
Background: This paper reflects an effort to recreate a modern analysis of a 1985 study on surgical outcomes of intermittent exotropia. Post-surgical results are reported as functional, motor, cosmetic, and unsuccessful. Modern optometric approaches to management of intermittent exotropia are also discussed. Methods: A literature review of 17 acceptable papers (dating from 1990-2011) on the out...
متن کاملResponse to: Comment on “Exotropia Is the Main Pattern of Childhood Strabismus Surgery in the South of China: A Six-Year Clinical Review”
We congratulate Yu et al. for their successful results where they evaluated the pattern distribution and the changes of strabismus surgery in pediatric population [1]. The authors observed that surgery for childhood exotropia was more common than surgery for esotropia in China and they stated that strabismus type and onset age were found to be associated with binocular function for subjects wit...
متن کاملSurgical Outcome of Intermittent Exotropia With Improvement in Control Grade Subsequent to Part-time Preoperative Occlusion Therapy.
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of improvement in the control grade of intermittent exotropia using part-time occlusion therapy on the final postoperative outcome. METHODS Control of intermittent exotropia was graded as good, fair, or poor in 89 consecutive patients with intermittent exotropia during their first visit. The patients were reevaluated after part-time preoperative occlusion therap...
متن کاملThe distance angle to target in surgery for intermittent exotropia.
BACKGROUND Patients with intermittent exotropia may have an increase in their angle of strabismus in the distance when the angle is measured either after 1 hour of monocular occlusion or while the patients fixate on a distant target outdoors. The hypothesis that surgery should be performed for this larger deviation has been suggested but not tested. OBJECTIVES To test the hypothesis that surg...
متن کاملSurgery versus Active Monitoring in Intermittent Exotropia (SamExo): study protocol for a pilot randomised controlled trial
BACKGROUND Childhood intermittent exotropia [X(T)] is a type of strabismus (squint) in which one eye deviates outward at times, usually when the child is tired. It may progress to a permanent squint, loss of stereovision and/or amblyopia (reduced vision). Treatment options for X(T) include eye patches, glasses, surgery and active monitoring. There is no consensus regarding how this condition sh...
